Had my first exam and it went ok i guess. I wasn't sure on some of them and one of them i just disn't know. I only really need to pass and i think i should of managed that to be honest.

One more to go and i am really not looking forward to it. Molecular and Cell Biology. There is just so much to it and its not like you can just learn things in general the questions are really fucking specific!
Once its over i can really start to enjoy myself i guess. Ive got a fair few things to look forward to. Iron Man comes out on the 1st of May and i couldn't be more excited. Im a big geek really and a huge iron man fan. I think its been superbly cast and as its independantly funded by marvel i think its going to be really true to the essence of iron man and tony stark.

Im also going down to wales on the weekend of the 11th of july for a forum meet up with some of the guys i speak to on TGN. Ive only met 4 of them before (about 16 of us are going). Its all the older guys as well which is cool. A few drinks and a weekend of video games sounds awesome to me.

Last thurday i went to see Forward Russia In Fat Sam's. tom's voice was a bit rough. He apoligised before they started though and it was cool that he just powered through it even though it was (in some places) obvious that he was struggling a bit.
The new FR album is immence. You can really tell how much they have matured musicaly with more complex and in a way more thought out songs but still retaining what made them (in my eyes) a unique musical experiance. Some Buildings for me is a track that really sticks out. For someone not used to the way FR flows i can imagine it being a bit weird to start with with every 4 bars the Timing moving from 5/4 to 4/4. Its a slow burner but its worth it more and more with every listen. Lyrics aren't usualy important to me in music as i get lost in the actualy music a lot easier. But with Forward russia the lyrics are just as important to me. The ways the songs are so well thought out with the cadences and inflection paid attention to for once instead of just the words.

Hey there all, I really haven't posted a lot recently. I never really do to be perfectly honest though stuff does happen in my life honest! I just find it hard to talk about the mundane things that a blog should really contain.

I got into my teaching course at Dundee. Im not sure how many of your really knew i wanted to teach but i have always wanted to. I really couldn't even begin to tell you why. I know it will be a insanely difficult life but i just want to leave my mark on young people like my teachers did on me. I depends on if i pass these upcoming exams which i am reaklly frightened by, they are very difficult subjects (organic chemistry and molecular and cell biology).

Its hard to know what to say since my last post so much has happened. I went to various gigs i went to various places, i still work far to much. I need to get a new flat for next year. Maybe it would be easier to just approch this as a 'new' blog...

Well im suitably bored enough to make a post on this. I do use livejournal a lot, i swear, but its just rarely to update, mostly i use it to keep up with friends who do make posts (Vicki, Emma etc)

Ive not rerally been doing much this summer to be honest. Working all the time. I haven't had a chance to do anything exciting because i need to save money for when i move out on the 23rd of this month! 11 DAYS!! w00t. I'm really looking forward to getting out of here, not because i have it in any way rough here because i dont..at all! my family and i get on really well, i just want some sort of independence. To do whatever i fel like. To be honest one of the things im most looking forward to is cooking my own meals. I know it sounds really stupid but i'd like to think that im a dab hand in the kitchen but i never get to experiment or make anything casue my mum is such a good cook and rules over our kitchen! so thats gonna be good.

Got the new muse album. I'm sure it wont come as a surprise to anyone that i fucking love it! Its very different but in a good way. I'm glad that muse are always moving their music in a different direction with each album it keeos them fresha nd interesting. I've got my tickets to see them in edinburgh on the 24th of august.

I passed all my uni exams, i didn't do as well in some subjects as i thought i would but nevermind, the main thing is that i passed.

The band have had a few gigs recently, we supported a band called Neils Children from london in the reading rooms. The were a bit anti-socal and spent a lot of the time doing each others hair and make up. Bit annoying really, you think that since they came all the way from london to play they would talk to the other bands and try to enjoy themselves They were an ok band, nothing special. We are trying to get an acoustic gig set up...well *I* am trying to get us an acoustic gig mostly, i feel a lot of our stuff would translate very well as acoustic stuff. I will update and tell you all when the gig is, but i doubt many of you will want to come.

I briefly had a girlfriend, i broke up with her yesterday. She is really nice but the more time i spent with her the more i realised that i just saw her as a friend rather than anything else. I thought it would be best if i broke things off now rather than keep gouing with the relationship and ending up hurting her in the end. She took it quite well, but i dont think she wants to see me for a while. its gonna be hard considering we work in the same place.

I think this weekend we (the band) are going to go up to stirling to our lead singers (Mark's) house to practice acoustic stuff and just generaly have a good time, a few drinks and a movie i think.

I saw pirates of the carribean 2 last thursdaya nd i must say i was most impressed with it. it was all very well done and hiliarious, though some scenes could of been a bit shorter. WE went to see it on the day ti came out so the cinema was absolutely packed!! it was fucking roasting in there, i must of lost about a stone just sitting watching the movie. On Friday sean and I are going to the Cinema with his workmate Kev to see superman returns. All of clad in our superman t-shirts (yeah i know we are all UBER GEEKS!!) sean is working of the saturday in the cinema so i think he is putting on his Supeman belt buckle and his t-shirt under his shirt so if anyone mentions superman he can rip off his shirt and run around. He also has a full costume ordered but i doubt it'll be here by then.

I dont think i have anymore to report really so ill just go and have a shower begore i have to be at work :(

Well sinc eim moving out this summer (23rd July) i needed ot geta p.c. But rather than just buy a computer froma shop, i decided to just buy all the componants and build it myself. Well it cost me just over a grand but its all good now. Interweb is working and now i have a p.c in my romo rather than having to use the familys computer.

Well again i am suitably bored enough to make an update on this. I really should update this more, im not going to say i AM going to update this more because that would be a down right lie. A lot of the time i find what happens to me not really worth writing about.

I went to see my friend Gordon last...erm....thursday/friday. He lives in kirkcaldy, i have never been past leuchars on a train before, going in that direction, though i have past it coming from glasgow. I had an awesome time. I got to see Gordon girlfriend laura again. She is really weird in the fact that she is one of the only girls, if not the only girl, that i know that really loves computer games. Gordon and her actualy met on a forum to do with computer games and just got to know each other from there, eventually ended up meeting and dating. A bit of a heart warming story i thought, you hear so many horrible storys about people meeting from the internet and its great that a relationship blossomed due to its influence.

Watching them togeather really got me thinking about how i miss having a girlfriend or just being that close to anyone. It was about half 2 or so in the morning and we were all pretty tired, they were just lying with each other on the couch in each other arms. When i saw how happy they were not even saying anything to each other or me i was so jelous and angry, not at them in peticular but just at the whole situation. I haven't had that kind of closeness in a year and a half.

I can't seem to find anyone that i connect with like that. Or if i do they have no interest in me at all. Maybe i should put myself out there in order to attract someone but i'm just not that kind of person. To be honest Gordon is the only realy friend i have made since coming to uni. I suppose i should go out to the union and clubs more often if i want to meet someone, and just quit whining about it.

Meeting someone (i have decided).....is hard.

In other new i seem to have done rather well in the exams for last semester a B1 in molecular science and a B2 in biomolecular mechanisims. I failed in philosophy, it was a marginal fail but it does indeed still have the word FAIL in it. I loved the philosophy module but i just can't write essays. I have all these idea in my head. i have them thought and they seem to make perfect sence but when i try and write them down in a coherent and sensible argument i just get some sort of block and am reduced to "yeah...thats not very good" or "Plato thought thinking that you were great was bad thing".

So like i said as much as i enjoyed it, i can't affort to fail another one so i have elected to do the enviromental biology, a rather boring subject but a subject in witch i have a rather better chance of getting a good grade. w00t

I'm just sitting here at my computer trying to find ways of keeping my mind entertained for a while, waiting for work to come round.

And i thought i would try and write something about Japanese Rock/Pop music, to try and make it more popluar, as it is a constantly underrated style of music.

Japaneese Rock/Pop music is NOT just the same style of music as american or european pop music. First of all the Music itself has a sharper feel to it and its more technicaly demanding for sure, making more use of modal or harmonic minor keys rather than the simple major/minor pentatonics that i feel the rest of the worlds music has fallen into.

A fine example of this is Gackt, he is a singer/songwriter originaly lead singer and founding member of the rock group Malice Mizer before thier split. He playes all the instuments for the studio versions of the solo albums, Voice, Guitar, Bass, Violin, Drums,Piano, Organ, Synth,Cello, Trumpet and ever tuba on a few tracks. His albums are like a a statement musicaly. The album diabolos goes from acoustic piano parts and sweeping violin passages(as in the first track in the album "Misty") to far more rocky songs like "Metamorphose" and an almost punk rock song "Black Stone"

Its doesn't matter at all in my opinion that you may not be able to understand the lyrics, the quality of the voice and the intruments speak for themselves, just close your eyes relax and enjoy.

His best song by far is Kimi no tameni dekiru koto. to say anything about it wouldn't do it justice.

I highly recomend gackt to anyone, im sure he is on i-tunes, or buy an album from yes-asia (google it for the address i can't remember it off hand) Your best bets are Mars or Diabolos to get get started.

X-japan are another band whose music is more than what europeans think of music, its has transended that and become art. The song "Art of Life" (its in english) is a staggering 28 minutes long and passes through almost any and every genre of music that you can think of, with a 5 minute wholetone piano solo, demanding vocal and gutair parts, driving bass lines and polyrythmic percussion, if you dont like the song in general there is bound to be at least one 2 minute section that you will enjoy.

If you like a heavier style of music then Dir en Grey are probably your bet best. Their first few albums were quite similar in style to Malice Mizer, (who they were actualy discovered by) but even in these there was the starting of a more metal sounding direction such as "Schwien no Isu" in the album Gauze (The Lyrics being in an almost incomprehensable mix of japanese and german )and sounding like sex itself lol. The song child Prey (In english though you wouldn't know it to listen to it) was when they first becan focusing on that metal style, and really have so ever since. The albums "Vulgar" and "Withering to Death" definately reflect this.

Its 1.30 and im still up doing absolutely fuck all, ive burst out in tears and i dont know what the fuck is going on with me.

The last few days ive just been reflecting on some of the stupid shit ive done in the past. About all the friend that ive hurt or left to fall into mere acquaintances.

I dont think i can do this for much longer, all i ever seem to do is sabotage every relationship i am ever involved in. sometimes i just want to get away form all this shit maybe for just an afternoon get on a train or a bus without know where the hell it was going and just spend an afternoon trying to piece togeather the bits of myself that are left.

I have more to say but i can't seem to write any of it down, i can barely think so i'll just leav eit at that i think, goodnight.

We have just been doing the teory of the forms in philosophy, and also the allogory of the cave.

basicly its making comparisons between the reality that we see to a cave to witch we chained up so we can see only a wall and nothing else, there is a fire behind us and people are projecting images against the wall. Because we have always been chained to the cave we belive that the shadows are what is reality and we know nothing of what is actually real. If we force ourselves to get up and turn around, we will not belive what we are seeing and we will be hurt by the intensity of the light whitch we have never seen before and naturaly we will want to go back to our wall and face it. Leaving the cave is death, only in death can we see the forms for what they are.

Philosophers seek the truth, the want to escape the cave and go outside in the real world where natural light illuminates everything ans gives it colour and we can see them for what the truely are (the forms).

The forms are Beauty, truth, justice etc... They are not a beautiful thing, that is called at particular, they remind us of the form that we know from previous lives.

I found this so interesting i was just posting this so i could find out if anyone else thought so. I have poorly explained it i think. if anyone is intested i could give them the powerpoint that the lecure notes are on and it would be explained more....I have decided to take philosophy next semester.

In other news the band is goign well. We got into the final of the ultimate chill competion where we got to play in the caird hall. We didn't win unfortunatly (they didn't say but i assume we came second hehe). Anyway the guy who organised it and picked us up from one of our gigs (called CHICO(!?)) got in contact and wanted us to record a few track for him so he could send it away to record companys etc on our behalf. So This saturday we are going to a recording studio in dundee and are recording a few tracks called: A distant eye - acoustic and a song called message made, if anyone would like ot hear the songs after we are done recording then fell free to ask.

Uni is going well really, nothing i should really be complaining about i still have the feeling that i sould be doing something else though (music) i really wish i tried now. but also i am satisfied with my choice because it is safer and i dont like to be rejected witch i am sure would of happened if i did try.

I am happy though.....yes i think i am. A strange new feeling after the last year or so. I am sleeping again (i couldn't sleep at all during the summer). Things seem to be going really well, im still friends with everyone i thought i would lose when uni came around, even darren who is in st.Andrews. I do miss sean since he moved but i see him all the time really, we are really rather close as far as brothers go. I'm seeing him tonight...no plans just general hanging out.

saying im happy is a bit weird since i ahve absolutly no love life.....at all. I just can't find anyone i find attractive that i could have a decent conversation with and anyone that i enjoy talking with i just dont find attractive or we are allready into he friends zone and it would be totally friendship destroying to try now. Thats my trouble i think, i semm to keep the phase in a relationship where a sexual or romantic relationship is possible. i go from meeting someone and being an aquantence to being a friend...UUURRGH this is just so frustrating.

Just looking up i do belive this is the biggest post i have made in my two years of livejournal, i don't update as much as i could mostly because im afraid of everyone who writes on thing. They are all very elequent people who dont seem to have any problem writing stuff down and making it enjoyable to read for other people (I'm looking at you Emma).

Right im gonna go now, check e-mail etc until my tutorial, *sigh* nothing to do.

Right a new day at uni. I am enjoying it a lot more than i thoght i would, have made a new friend (Sophie). My lecures were great today...apart from biomolecuar mechanisims..molecular science was good and philosophy was AMAZING today. We are doing Plato, who is oddly enought talking about socrates (well in all his writing socrates is the main charecter).

I'm still totally not getting how to take notes properly i am so poor at it (thank god for my lectures being put online). right im off for cockails.

I hate this fucking problem with my internet. When we got broaband i wa sall like YAY no more slow connections! but i haven't been able to fucking use it. I hardly get to speak to people like emma anymore as we usualy use the internet to speak! at least before my internet was semi-reliable but fuck! im just so fed up with it. i have to totaly abuse my friends just so ican get a chance to maybe update this, or even check my fucking e-mail!

So this weekend has been really good. motstly.

Well my band an i had our first gig on friday night went really well, m,eaning we played well. if only the crowd weren't all emo freaks with there "oh look at me in my cardagain, sipping tea and crying about how my girlfriend has split up with me, i cry a casulty as well amn't i all emotional!! LOOK AT MEEE LOOK AT MEEE"

The other tow band were like that so they got a better crowd reaction while we who eere the only fucking musition there, playing proper music, didn't get much, we got some but not as much as i hoped. We found out later that most of the audiance were friends of the other two bands. The other bands after the show came up to us and said we were by far the better musitions witch made it a little better.

On saturday i met up with sarah, a friend ive had for years but just not seen her much as i should of, one thing led to another and well we ended up kissing and stuff, and the strange things SHE made the move on me!! this doesn't happen to ryan! ah well im off to do some psychology.

after the best part of 2 years of reading little bits about the mars volta form emmas livejournal i have discoverd that they ARE BLOODY FANTASTIC

was listning to mtv2 the other day and a song came on that i really like at the end it turne dou it was widow by mars volta, i then (now that my interweb seems to be working again, thank you new modem) downloaded more from the album Frances the mute and i am now addicted!

Well spoke to Callum last night at about 8:30. HE is well but he has a very slight canadian accent now! we didn't talk for that long as he ha dmajor jet-lag as he put it, so he said to phone him again at about 4 today and see about doing something tonight. hope we do do something it'll be really nice to see him again. Thinking about it during 3rd and 4th year me and him were pretty close always spending time round each other, he is a really funny guy. He had only be told about the dual carrageway being built from dundee to arbroath and he was like

"I dont CARE about that i want small town gossip, you dont get any when you live in calgary"

so i informed him of the couples Paul/Jaqueline, Callum/Verena, and he was dissapointed i think to hear that verena wasn't single, ive always been sure he has a thing for her

"What Callum and verena are a couple!?"

"Callum has long hair and a beard!"

"YOU used to have hair down to mid back!, Why does nobody tell me THESE sort of things!?"

Since we didn't actual do anything i just spent the night moping round doing nothing abd playing ff8 classy game. I need to gte the psychology report done post-haste. then i have a chemistry one for monday as well! Media we managed to get done yesterday. Music dissertation can get done soonish hopefully. and now i have ot have my programme notes done soon as well! I DONT KNOW WHAT I DO IN MY INVENTION!! I IMPROVISEMOST OF IT!

Yo people! went to the RSNO on wedensday. Fantastic! Clarinetist (i think thats the word anyway) was amazing . He played for 30mins with no music playing very complecated stuff. Beethoven Overture and then Beethovens 6th Pastoral. And at the Break i asked for something i never thought i would be able to ask for "a miller and a choc ice please" i was laughing when i went back to david and alanna.

Yesterday i went to give blood...they found it hard to find a vein and because i have a fear of needles my arm was so tight that my veins contracted and they could only get 70ml.

My friend who moved ot canada 2 yeard ago is back and he told me to phone at about 7:30 so im gonna phone then and hopefully see him then.

right im off.
